ks4: Health and Social Care

Vision Statement

The NCFE in health and social care  gives learners the opportunity to develop sector-specific knowledge and skills in a practical learning environment. The qualification covers the following content areas:

  • Health and Social care provisions and services
  • Job roles in health and social care and the values that underpin professional practice
  • Legislations, policies and procedures in health and social care
  • Human development across the life span
  • The care needs of individuals
  • How health and social care services are accessed
  • Partnership working in health and social care
  • The care planning cycle

Pupils will be assessed in the form of a synoptic assessment which is coursework completed within exam condition which will make up 50% of their final grade. The other 50% will be made up from an external written examination

KS5: Cambridge OCR Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification (AAQ) Cambridge Advanced National in Health and Social Care

Vision Statement

Our Health and Social Care course inspires students to make a difference in people’s lives by developing the knowledge, skills, and values needed to support individuals and communities. Through a mix of theory and practical application, learners gain confidence, independence, and transferable skills that prepare them for higher education, apprenticeships, and careers in health, social care, and related fields.

The Health and Social Care course covers a broad and engaging range of topics. Whether your interests lie in the human lifespan, meeting individual care needs, or exploring anatomy and physiology, there is plenty to capture your curiosity. It also complements a wide range of other subjects, such as Sociology, Sport Studies, and Biology.

  • F097: Supporting Healthy Nutrition and Lifestyles- NEA assignment

Assessment:

  • 40% Exam externally assessed
  • 60% NEA (assignments) internally assessed, externally moderated
  • Builds transferable skills including communication, problem solving, research, teamwork, and presentation.

This course supports progression to careers and degrees such as Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Paramedic Science, Health Sciences, and Public Health.

KS5: T Level Education & Early Years

Vision Statement

Delivered by our highly effective Health and Social Care department, this T-Level is aimed at pupils that wish to develop both knowledge and practical skills in the education and early years sector.  T-Level qualifications combine classroom theory, practical learning and an employment based placement, to produce well rounded, work experienced individuals within specific areas; in this case it is the education and development of those in nursery and the initial stage of primary school education. 

Students will have the opportunity to develop their understanding of children and young peoples’ needs and behaviours, using this and effective communication to effectively plan and provide activities for them to develop. Whilst knowledge and these skills will be developed in a particular 

Students will be well supported through each of the core components, whether in the Academy or in the employer’s setting. Students will gain knowledge across a broad spectrum within the course coverage, but will be given the opportunity to specialise in a particular area when completing the employer based component.

The development of young people and their education is critical to society. Studying this particular area could lead to an extremely rewarding career path, allowing you to make a real difference to modern society.

Course Outline/Assessment Methods

Core component:

This is now only 1 core written exam covering elements 2 – 6 and the ESP covers element 1 and 7. In year 2 there are competencies they have to demonstrate during industry placement observations as well as written examinations.

Occupational specialism component:

  • synoptic assignments

The student is also required to successfully achieve a distinction/ merit/ pass grade in one of the occupational specialism components. If the student fails to reach the specified level of attainment, they will receive a U grade.
