In January 2019, The Academy was awarded Silver Artsmark from the Arts Council in recognition of our school’s continuing commitment to making the Arts a strong part of our wider curriculum.
The Artsmark scheme has granted and enabled a wide range of activities and provisions to develop across the Academy and has clearly outlined the importance and recognition of the ‘Arts’ across our community with all teachers taking a responsibility for students’ development within arts, culture and SMSCD. This has been evidenced through greater facilities being available to our students, such as our Photographic Darkroom, as well as the reintroduction of subjects like Music and Dance to our curriculum.
Artsmark awarded us a grant, which enabled the students to engage in group workshops with local and visiting artists, as well as creating works that were used in local exhibitions and festivals. It has allowed our students to experience practitioners working today and enabled them greater opportunities.
