Ofsted Report - 2018
“The appropriately broad range of timetabled subjects is complemented creatively by extracurricular opportunities, including in technology and the expressive arts.”
At The Hundred of Hoo Academy, we not only value education in the classroom, we believe our experiences define us. Pupils should be given a wealth of opportunities, alongside activities that they have the right to experience. Each and every year pupils spend at The Hundred of Hoo Academy they will develop new skills, make new friends and be involved in life-affirming experiences. Every young person will have an entitlement to rich and fulfilling experiences both inside and outside of the Academy walls.
At The Hundred of Hoo Academy we provide our pupils with a holistic curriculum, enhancing all aspects of their development. We firmly believe that a young person’s future is dependent on the experiences they have in the present.
Throughout their Academy career, pupils will be entitled to attend a variety of trips. The cultural development supported by trips, along with their academic benefits, ensures that trips are a vital aspect of our young people’s growth and progress.
The Academy offers a range of trips both locally and abroad. We truly embrace the fact that pupils’ learning is not confined to the classroom, but truly happens in any and every aspect or walk of life.
Alongside trips there are opportunities within the Academy including clubs in Science, Art, Textiles, Cookery, Young Writers, Board games. They can also take part in the Choir, Rock school, Stage productions, Variety performances, student leadership and sports.
We are an Academy with a proud sporting heritage. Our committed staff body give every pupil the opportunity to participate in a plethora of activities at lunch time and after school. Taking part in sporting activities has benefits beyond improved fitness; communication, team-work and leadership are just some of those other benefits.
At the Hundred of Hoo Academy our curriculum gives every pupil strong foundations for the future. It gives every pupil the right and opportunity to ‘Aspire, Achieve and Excel’.
Pupil Entitlement and Opportunities
The Academy truly places value on the experiences gained from every aspect of the curriculum and co-curriculum. The Pupil Entitlement ensures that all pupils have access to activities and enriching experiences that will enable them to grow as a person as well as an academic learner. These opportunities include: working within the community, access to outside speakers, residential excursions and performing on stage. By the end of their Academy career, all pupils, no matter what their background, will have had the opportunity to access every activity within the Entitlement. This will be tracked by subject teachers and heads of department to ensure that all pupils have access to this entitlement.
More time for learning
At the Academy we believe that pupils should have every opportunity to make progress both in and out of timetabled lessons. Our pupils greatly benefit from these opportunities which broaden their knowledge, allow them to discover new skills and support pupils to make the very best use of their time.
To embed core subjects and make time for further intervention we are open at weekends and during school holidays, offering revision and master classes as well as residential stays, day trips and summer schools. At Hoo, every hour of every day is devoted to children learning and no time is wasted. We dedicate one hour at the end of every day to provide a multitude of intervention activities that allow pupils to extend their skills and knowledge ensuring they make rapid progress even when lessons are complete. Every subject across the Academy provides these opportunities throughout the year. This means that there are a broad range of sessions on offer which cater for a range of different individual pupils. Sessions are personalised by class teachers to meet the specific needs of every pupil.
Pupils can also attend intervention sessions throughout the Academy holidays and on Saturdays in the lead up to the Examination season. Sessions are advertised regularly through teachers, website, ‘SchoolComms’ and personalised timetables. Our Academy ensures that pupils who attend after-school sessions are able to travel home on an early-evening bus.
Homework Club runs in the evening, Monday to Thursday, to support pupils with any Home Study issues.
