Berners-Lee Class (Year 1)

Class Teacher: Mrs J Baber

Teaching Assistants: Mrs S Bull, Mrs L Hardwick (ELSA)

Welcome to Berners-Lee Class! Our class is named after Tim Berners-Lee who invented the World Wide Web.

There are lots of exciting opportunities for learning in year 1, sometimes you won’t even realise you’re learning! We continue with the practical and discovery nature of EYFS while covering the objectives set out in the National Curriculum. There are three marvellously engaging topics that we will explore throughout the year.  Within these we will have many opportunities to apply our learning through educational visits, workshops and meeting experts.

We love creating an imaginative learning environment that helps you to immerse yourself in our topic at the time. Our reading den entices you to settle down with a good book and our role play corner encourages you to dress up and transform into someone else.

Phonics is a priority in year 1 as we will be working towards passing the Phonics Screening in Term 6. We have daily phonics sessions but also apply our Phonics knowledge in all the subjects of the curriculum. Don’t forget to do this at home as well!

We are very lucky to be able to work with our teachers in the secondary part of the academy.  As an academy, we work on a fortnightly timetable; Red Week and Blue Week. Every term starts on Red Week.

Please make sure that your PE is in school every day for the whole term.  You can take it home to be washed at the end of each term.
