Da Vinci Class (Reception)
Class Teacher: Ms H Kunaseelan
Teaching Assistant: Miss T Graves
Welcome to Da Vinci class! Our class is named after Leonardo Da Vinci who a Renaissance artist and engineer, known for paintings like "The Last Supper" and "Mona Lisa,” and for inventions like the flying machine.
In Year R we follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum, which allows you to have many opportunities to explore and develop what interests you – whether it is being imaginative in our engaging role play and small world areas, creating masterpieces at the art table, or constructing and problem solving with our many open-ended resources. We also have a cosy reading den for enjoying looking at and sharing books. We have fun topic themes throughout the year to help link all of our learning together.
We are very keen on using our outdoor space, and look forward to giving you a chance to experience all the opportunities that you have inside, outside as well! Make sure you bring wellies and raincoats so you are prepared for jumping in those puddles!
In Year R we work hard on developing our fine motor skills, and do lots of exercises to practise strengthening our finger muscles – although we might not realise we are doing this as the activities are fun! We also learn phonics to enable us to begin to read and write by ourselves. We have a choice of homework activities linked to our term’s topic each week, and phonics homework to help us remember what we have learnt in class.
We are very lucky to be able to work with our teachers in the secondary part of the academy. As an academy, we work on a fortnightly timetable; Red Week and Blue Week. Every term starts on Red Week.
